Rewiring my arm was a combination of brute force & ignorance I'm afraid.

At the headshell end of the arm, the internal connections are mounted in a plastic/rubber disc, which is a tight push fit into the arm tube. On my arm this disc had been pushed deep into the tube, preventing the headshell pins from making contact.

To push the the disc forward and out of the tube I used a thin knitting needle, which was flexible enough to follow the curve or the arm (note there is another disc at the back of the arm tube, presumably for damping purposes - I just pushed past this).

There was no need to undo any screws.
