Benbecula have appeared at Sonar (Barcelona) and Triptych (Scotland), and been a big favourite of the late great John Peel who invited Benbecula artist Christ to perform a live session in 2003. Benbecula was one of the first labels to be invited onto Warp’s download site bleep.com, and in 2005 the label struck a direct deal with iTunes. Benbecula has it's own publishing company, Benbecula Music, which manages mechanical royalties and synchronisation of it's music in TV and film.
Benbecula is known for its small but perfectly formed roster of artists and carefully selected release schedule. Artists include Christ., Ochre, Reverbaphon, Brian Ellis, Genaro, Wounded Knee, Syntaks, Prhizzm, Greenbank, Operator, Mikael Romanenko and Frog Pocket.
The "Minerals Series" first took shape in December 2005 when Benbecula Records released a specially made box set containing 13 albums. A mixture of brand new works, sessions, out-takes, outstanding demos, local artists, new artists, label stalwarts and above all, the spirit of independent music making. The box set was such a success (it sold out 2 weeks prior to release date), that Benbecula decided to continue the Series releasing one album roughly every month in very limited quantities. The Series allows Benbecula to “fast track” recently discovered modern music to the world, giving the opportunity for fresh talent to emerge a whole lot quicker.)
