Brothers in Arms was one of the first albums recorded on a Sony 24-track digital tape machine.
With the exception of the Sony PCM-3348HR and Studer D827, all of the DASH recorders have 16-bit resolution with a 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz sampling rate, although it is possible to use an outboard analog-to-digital converter of up to 20-bit resolution.
All DASH recorders primarily use the SDIF-2 (Sony Digital Interface Format-2) as a digital interface, which is slightly different from the S/PDIF or AES3 that nearly all other digital audio recorders use, but is technically superior because SDIF-2's word clock is not multiplexed into the bitstream.
Removing many of the inadequacies of the 8078 series was a custom-made Neve console A4792, constructed in 1978, at AIR Studios in Montserrat, which was founded by George Martin. Used on such recordings as Dire Straits' award-winning album Brothers in Arms...
Producer Neil Dorfsman says the digital multitrack was mixed on a Solid State Logic analog board, with the resulting two track mix re-digitized via a Prism A/D converter and recorded on a DAT machine.
И все как то жили весело и счастливо, считая что it was a full digital recording (DDD) at a time when most popular music was recorded on analog equipment.
[In 1985] we were fighting to get our CDs manufactured because the entire worldwide manufacturing capacity was overwhelmed by demand for a single rock title (Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms).
It was remastered and reissued with the rest of the Dire Straits catalogue in 1996 for most of the world outside the United States and on 19 September 2000 in the United States, the remastering for both reissues was done by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering using the Super Bit Mapping process.[27] In 2000, it was released on XRCD2 format, this edition was remastered by Hiromichi Takiguchi using K2 20bit technology.
Потому что ещё в момент выхода на 1985 были версии abridged to fit on one LP.
